Mardene Carr
I am Mardene R. Carr, a seasoned Information Specialist and Educator with a robust track record in academia, library management, and digital marketing. My professional journey spans various roles, including Adjunct Faculty, Librarian, and Director of Library and Innovation, where I have demonstrated a strong aptitude for designing educational programs, conducting impactful workshops, and managing collections effectively.
Currently engaged in ongoing PhD studies in Theology at UWI – Mona, I blend a profound academic foundation with practical expertise. My educational background also includes a Master’s in Educational Technology from Devry University and an Advanced Master’s in Library & Information Science from Louisiana State University, where I was honored with the Mary Adeline Conner Professional Development Scholarship and the Special Library Association Award.
In my roles at the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean and University of the People, I design and deliver curriculum for online courses, engaging students through innovative learning methods and technologies. My tenure at Broward County Libraries and Seacrest Country Day School allowed me to hone my skills in supervising teams, initiating STEM education programs such as the Girls Who Code Club, and implementing cutting-edge technologies to enhance user services.
My leadership at the University College of the Caribbean as the Chief Librarian saw me leading cost-saving initiatives, upgrading library systems, and developing policies that significantly enhanced service quality and efficiency. Additionally, I bring specialized certifications in Social Media Advertising, Digital Marketing, WordPress, and Instructional Design, enabling me to provide comprehensive research and reference services while fostering a collaborative work environment.
I have shared my insights on various topics at national and international conferences, with publications in esteemed journals such as The Electronic Library and Competitive Intelligence Magazine. As a committed lifelong learner and a professional dedicated to the advancement of information literacy, I am continually seeking opportunities to leverage technology in empowering individuals and communities through education.
